A case of ARF after chromopertubation with povidone iodine

Povidone iodine is a widely-used antiseptic agent, especially for cutaneous lesions. Despite its apparent innocuousness, some cases of acute renal failure are reportedly due to iodine toxicity. Authors report a case of an acute renal failure secondary to povidone iodine exposure in a 22-year-old woman. She underwent a hysteroscopy for diagnosis of secondary sterility with bilateral tubal block in hysterosalpingogram, and povidone iodine was used as the contrast agent. She developed acute renal failure with oliguria, later on anuria during the postoperative period. Treatment with diuretics and hemodialysis led to a favourable outcome and return of normal kidney function. Mucosal administration of povidone iodine appears to lead to greater iodine toxicity than cutaneous administration. The clinical feature of this patient suggested tubular necrosis caused by iodine, after the other possible causes of acute renal failure were ruled out. Acute renal failure secondary to povidone iodine administration is possible, especially through mucosal surfaces. Outcome is favourable after the conclusion of exposure and symptomatic treatment

Thermodynamic behaviour of two-dimensional vesicles revisited

We study pressurised self-avoiding ring polymers in two dimensions using Monte Carlo simulations, scaling arguments and Flory-type theories, through models which generalise the model of Leibler, Singh and Fisher [Phys. Rev. Lett. Vol. 59, 1989 (1987)]. We demonstrate the existence of a thermodynamic phase transition at a non-zero scaled pressure $\tilde{p}$, where $\tilde{p} = Np/4\pi$, with the number of monomers $N \rightarrow \infty$ and the pressure $p \rightarrow 0$, keeping $\tilde{p}$ constant, in a class of such models. This transition is driven by bond energetics and can be either continuous or discontinuous. It can be interpreted as a shape transition in which the ring polymer takes the shape, above the critical pressure, of a regular N-gon whose sides scale smoothly with pressure, while staying unfaceted below this critical pressure. In the general case, we argue that the transition is replaced by a sharp crossover. Reproductive Profile: Women Bidi Workers of District Sagar of MP

For the present investigation, cross sectional data on different aspects of fertility was collected from 119 households of district Sagar of Madhya Pradesh. A semi structure schedule was used to collect information on age, sex, age at first birth, total number of live births, number of children died, number of surviving children, pregnancy experienced by mothers and reproductive wastage etc. It was found that 499 pregnancies were experienced by 112 mothers, out of which 4525 were total live birth, 68 were child loss and 47 were fetal loss. By using these variable, fertility was estimated, and rates and ratio such as Child women ratio, Crude birth rate, General fertility rate, Age specific fertility rate, General marital fertility rate, Gross reproduction rate, Total fertility rate etc. were calculated. Among bidi workers, the mean age of mother at first birth was found to be 21.31±12.5 years. The crude birth rate (CBR) was found to be 24.6. Total fertility rate was 5.5, which is quite higher as compared to vital rate of Madhya Pradesh and Nation, whereas General fertility rate was 100 and General marital fertility rate was 138.2. The Gross reproduction rate was 2.69, whereas the highest ASFR was found to be 400 among mothers belonging to age group of 15-19 years. It was concluded that the studied population have higher fertility rate and requires further investigation to find out the reason behind it

Redefining Retail Store Formats - A South African Study

The global competitive retail space is challenging and the retailers are experimenting with different strategies to gain competitive advantage in the market. Retailers are developing and designing new and improved store formats to mirror the customers’ expectations by using distinctive benefits. Thus attracting and retaining customers by creating store brand loyalty is every retailer’s dream and they are spending a huge amount of time and money in developing these uniquely attractive retail store formats. However, limited academic research is available to help retailers understand the most profitable and popular retail store format in South Africa.This empirical research paper is an attempt to investigate the influence of the design, type and size of the retail store on the customer buying behaviour in the consumer durables market by examining a random sample of respondents from Gauteng, South Africa. The research findings, indicates that there is a varying degree of effect of retail store formats on the customer buying behaviour. Most of the variables have a positive correlation with other variables of customer behaviour. However in some cases, variables have significant inverse relationship with each other

Effect of Indole 3-butyric acid (IBA), rooting media and their interaction on different rooting and growth characteristic of air-layers in guava (Psidium guajava L. cv. L-49)

The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of different concentrations of Indole 3-butyric acid (0, 2000, 4000, 8000 and 10000 ppm), different types of rooting media (i.e. sphagnum moss, coco peat, vermicompost, sphagnum moss + coco peat and sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost) and the interaction of these in different combinations on rooting and growth characteristic of guava, cv. L-49. The results revealed that the exogenous application of Indole 3-butyric acid (IBA) 8000 ppm with media combination of sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost (I3M5) significantly increased the root characters i.e. success percent of air-layers (83.3 %), callus formation (23.7), number of primary roots (24.21) and secondary roots (32.57); and growth characters i.e. number of leaves (48.17), branches (7.92) and sprouts (8.48) and survival percentages (83.18) over the other treatments and control. Among the rooting media, the combination of sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost (M5) produced the highest rooting percentage (71.27), root characters and growth characters during months of July and August
